Gladys Elizabeth Kersten, 96, a long-time Janesville resident passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Skaalen Retirement Home in Stoughton. She was born in Wisconsin on August 8, 1917, the daughter of Benjamin and Eva (Robinson) Lyke. She was a graduated of Janesville High School and married Herman A. Kersten on January 6, 1937 in Fulton Township. Gladys also worked for a time at Nunn Bush Shoe Company in Edgerton. They farmed for many years in Porter Township until moving to Janesville in 1964. After moving to Janesville, Gladys was employed as a housekeeper for several private homes in Janesville. He died November 22, 1984. Gladys continued to reside in Janesville until 2012 when she moved to the Kelly House in Evansville where she remained until a month ago when she moved to the Skaalen Home. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Janesville.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Michelle (Greg) Reiter of Forest Lake, MN, 2 great-grandsons, Nick and Nate Reiter,5 step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren,  nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Anderson who died April 10,2012, her son-in-law, Stanley Anderson,  a grandson, Larry Anderson, 3 brothers, Clarence Behling, Charles and Howard Lyke.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Milton Lawns Memorial Park Chapel, 2200 Milton Avenue, Janesville with Pastor Bond Haldeman officiating. Burial will follow in Milton Lawns. Visitation will be at Milton Lawns Chapel from Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Kersten’s name to St. John Lutheran Church. The Kersten family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
